‘Eternal Flame: Honouring WW2 Heroes on PNG Remembrance Day’

In honour of Remembrance Day,
we gather here today,
to pay heartfelt tribute,
in a solemn, sombre way.
July 23rd, a day etched in memory’s embrace,
For Papua New Guinea’s brave souls,
who stood in war’s fierce face.

In every field and forest, on mountains
high they tread,
Defenders of our homeland, by duty
firmly led.
With courage as their armour, they
faced the darkest hour,
Through sacrifice and valiance, they
wielded peace and power.

Amidst the echoing cannons and the
cries of battle’s toil,
They stood as one united, with a
warrior’s heart and soul.
Though many fell in battle, their
Spirits still remain,
As guardian of our freedom, forever
we’ll proclaim.

Through hardships and adversity,
they marched with dauntless might,
Their love for PNG’s soil, a beacon in
the night.
They left behind their families, their
hopes and dreams they stored,
To safeguard future generations, on
destiny’s accord.

With poppies as our emblem, we
recall each noble name,
Each soldier and war carrier, in eternal
flame.
Their legacy leaves on in us, in every
breath we take,
In unity and harmony, their sacrifices wake.
So on this Remembrance Day, with
heads bowed down in grace,
We honor all the fallen, in this sacred,
hallowed space.
Let’s cherish peace they fought for,
with gratitude profound,
And keep their memory cherished,
forever safe and sound.
